I hear there’s a new dean; WAIT, I KNOW HIM, IT’S MR.HANSEN! Mr. Hansen has been promoted to the new dean at Cortez High School. After 6 years at Cortez, Mr. Hansen is starting his 7th year as the new dean!
Let’s hear it from the man himself; when asked, “How was your first month as the new dean?” He responded, “It’s very fast-paced, but it’s a lot of fun. I’m very lucky to still be here at Cortez. I feel like it would be a different adjustment somewhere else. And so I’m very lucky to still have the students, the faculty, and staff.”

Although we are happy to see him soar, we do miss him teaching the students. Hansen says that what he misses as a teacher is witnessing the growth of the students.
Before we let him go back to his duties, he has a message for the new freshmen: “Remember that your mistakes are not who you are, they’re just mistakes, and it’s okay to have slip-ups, but you have to make amends and you have to be the best Colt you can be.”
Mr. Hansen was also a beloved football coach. Although he had been promoted, he had to relinquish his position as coach of the football team. Mr. Hopper, a co-coach, said about the new position for Mr. Hansen, “I’m genuinely excited about Mr. Hansen stepping into the role of dean. It’s clear that this is a path he’s been working toward for quite some time, and it’s great to see his hard work and leadership recognized.”
Even so, Mr. Hopper still had to say farewell to a coach on the field, but he did have some words about the split: “There’s no doubt that we miss Mr. Hansen; he was not only a great coach, but also a strong motivator. His presence on the field made a big difference, and anytime there’s a change in leadership, it takes some adjustment.”
Mr. Hansen’s presence on the field was known not only to the other coaches but also to the players. Captain of the football team, Christian Rego #54, expressed what a phenomenal coach Mr. Hansen was by saying, “He was one of our best coaches. I wish he could come back. He deserves it, I mean, I miss him as a coach, but he’s a great dean.”
We, as Colts, are excited to see what Mr. Hansen does further down the road.
Congratulations to Mr. Hansen for becoming the new dean of Cortez High School!

I don’t think it’s sad. I believe change is a sign of growth, especially if he’s been promoted to a spot he enjoys more.
