Students from the Glendale and Tolleson school districts got a unique and exciting start to the school year with a TRIO-sponsored trip to iFLY, an indoor skydiving center. This event wasn’t just a fun outing but it was a chance to try something new, build teamwork, and learn in a hands-on environment. Instead of jumping from a real plane, students experienced the thrill of skydiving in a safe and controlled setting.
At iFLY, powerful fans simulate the sensation of free-fall, allowing participants to float mid-air. Students also learned how the wind tunnel works, practiced hand signals used for communication during flights, and reviewed important safety procedures. After the flight sessions, students shared a meal and worked together on an activity that involved assembling a model of the giant fan that powers the iFLY experience. The atmosphere was supportive and encouraging, with everyone cheering each other on—especially as most were trying indoor skydiving for the first time.
“The air is so strong, it makes your heart race in a way you can’t control,” said one student.
“It was scary at first, but the instructors were really kind and patient.”
By the end of the day, everyone walked away with a sense of accomplishment and unforgettable memories. It was the perfect way to start the year with adrenaline, teamwork, and a whole lot of fun.
