Cortez High School’s football team has had an impressive season filled with accomplishments and teamwork.
Student-athlete Ernesto Tejeda has shared insights on the significant impact of the team this year. “Coaches Hanson and Hopper have demonstrated passion for the team, which has inspired the student-athletes to show their appreciation on the field.”
This season, the Cortez High School football team has made big plays, showcasing their talent, teamwork, and determination. Coaches Hanson and Hopper have not only enhanced the team’s skills but also fostered a stronger school spirit among the student-athletes at CHS.
Despite facing tough opponents, the team has exhibited great strategic plays and secured impressive victories. One of their standout wins was against Coronado, where they dominated the score at 42-6. Both teams played exceptionally well, but Cortez outfought them.
Senior players Michael Anthony, Joshua Valencia, John Favier, Vicente Sanchez, and Wilber Rivera Jr. have all had outstanding seasons, utilizing the techniques they developed over their years of playing high school football. Michael Anthony went over 1,000 yards for the 3rd time as a running back.
Off the field, the football team has actively participated in community service initiatives for Cortez High School and engaged in local events. Their dedication to both the community and the sport highlights their organization as a team and as individuals, reinforcing the spirit of Cortez. The football season has provided all players with an opportunity to boost their self-esteem and demonstrate their progress in each game, reflecting their hard work and dedication during practice.
